Oooh, controversial stamp is controversial.

I've had this sitting in my hard drive unfinished for a while. I almost didn't upload this.

I've been seeing a lot of (mostly) unwarranted hatred towards Americans lately, mostly on the internet but also in other media. I made this stamp because I feel that a lot of non-Americans judge us based on our celebrities and politicians rather than the normal citizens here. Yes, there are plenty of Americans who are stuck-up morons, but I want more people to know that we are not all like that.

I'd also like to point out that I used the American flag as the background purely out of relevance, since our apparently above-average patriotism can seem arrogant to other people.

Anyone is welcome to make a nationality-neutral stamp with their own country in it, I'd love to see them if anybody does make one.

If you use this stamp, please :+fav: it.

I agree~ I remember going back to visit Hong Kong, and my relatives were all, "What did America do to you? You gained weight!"

o _o Oh my.

I am actually abroad right now and I haven't really gotten any flak for what you have listed, but I know the attitude is still out there. Most of the foreign people I have met have been so nice, and I hope that they remain open to me in a similar fashion.

Thank you for the stamp.

Oh, I'm sure most people abroad are very nice, I'm well aware that the vast majority are perfectly hospitable.

I think the reason anti-American attitudes are so prevalent on the internet is because, as it is with many other opinions, people feel more open to express their opinion because of the anonymity of the internet.
:iconaracid:
Aye. Most who haven't been here are ignorant about America. It's every culture, so smashing our lifestyle is smashing their own lifestyle.

There was one case my dad told me about. We were on holiday in america and my dad had gone to a pub/bar for a drink. He told me there was this American that came up to him, as he could tell my dad was forgein and said "Isn't America the best fucking country in the whole fucking world!?" Was he arrogent? In my eyes, yes. But thoughout the remainder of the holiday, we never encountered anyone as arrogent/overly patriotic as that, and there wasn't that many fat people there.
Americans act a little arrogent on Xbox live, but then again, every nationality acts arrogent on Xbox live.

Americans are really only potrayed as stupid (But they have some of the worlds most advanced technology...so that can't be stupid as a whole) because George Bush seems stupid (I don't know him, he could be smart for all I know)

All in all, i don't see why we should have much against the average American person

Stereotypes are a great shame really when people assume that the majority of the populations are just like the stereotypical people.

People like that make me angry, because they are making fools not only of themselves, but of Americans as a whole. Yes, I believe my country to be a great country. The best in world? That's debatable. But to be so rude and downright arrogant about the subject is very disrespectful.

lol, yeah, the internet and it's many forms tend to bring out the worst in all of us.

From my personal perspective, which could be completely wrong, George Bush is a moron and a bad president for this country. Unfortunately, there's not much we can do about it.

I agree that stereotypes are a disappointing aspect of modern culture. But it's really just human nature to assume things like that and one can't really be blamed for it.

Thanks for such a nice and well-thought-out comment. :)

Well thought out comment? Hehe, thanks :).

Racism nowadays isn't really white against blacks or vice versa. Racism is now based on these stereotypes.

Thank you for this. I am a PROUD AMERICAN, and believe in my country and my people whether they naturally come from here or not. I also take great pride in the fact that my country is one that supports and protects freedoms that allow people of all nationalities to speak their minds freely without the danger or worry of retaliation. By that I mean, government. Yes there are some people in this country that are rude, fat, arrogant, and stupid but please show me a country that there is a population made up solely of perfect people. Show me please where there is a place where no one judges anyone and there is peace of the purest form.

So again, I thank you. Because lumping all Americans together is like saying all from the Middle East are terrorist, all from Asia eat dogs and cats and hate their children, all from Africa have aids and all from Europe are dirty, snobby, and frigid with horrible dental care. To think this does not show intelligence of any sort. It merely proves the opposite!
