Description

Asperger's Syndrome, a neurological disorder on the autistic spectrum, is a rare disorder associated with classic autistic symptoms such as underdeveloped social skills and unusual ways of processing information and perception of one's environment. The main difference between Asperger's and other forms of autism is the delay in speech development, which is a typical symptom of "classic" autism, but is usually not present with Asperger's. Asperger's is often associated with autistic individuals with higher than average intelligence, but it is not a defining characteristic.
Asperger's is a wildly overdiagnosed disorder, in result of doctors unfamiliar with the disorder misdiagnosing children and adults with "normal" autism, or simply have poor social skills.

- Being autistic and "bright" does not mean you have Asperger's Syndrome.
- Being socially awkward does not mean you have Asperger's Syndrome.
- Being a "nerd" does not mean you have Asperger's Syndrome.
- Being a genius does not mean you have Asperger's Syndrome.

Taking an online test or reading about symptoms of Asperger's syndrome online does not qualify you to make an informed, professional diagnosis of a rare neurological disorder. If you truly believe you have Asperger's Syndrome, make an appointment with a well-accredited psychologist, preferably one who specializes in autism or similar neurological disorders, and let them diagnose you.

Being energetic does not mean you have ADHD, and being socially awkward does not mean you have Asperger's Syndrome. Stop claiming to have a rare disorder to explain away why you're unpopular or bad at [insert skill here]. It's stupid, obnoxious, and makes people that actually HAVE the disorder look bad.
